Chapter 8 - Rebuilding from Ash

Six months later.
Nestled in the quiet, rolling hills of Montana sat a spacious timber house surrounded by pines, a crystal-clear lake, and snow-capped peaks. The air was fresh and clean, far away from the dark memories of the Thorne mansion.
Elias had bought the ranch years ago as a retirement dream, but now it had become a sanctuary.
Audrey sat on the wide wooden porch, an easel set up in front of her. She was painting a sweeping landscape of the sunset over the mountains, her strokes confident, vibrant, and full of life. Color had returned to her face; she had gained healthy weight, and her laugh echoed through the valley once again.
Elias walked out onto the porch carrying two mugs of hot tea. He placed one beside her easel and stood next to her, looking at the canvas.
"You've captured the light beautifully, Audrey," he said softly.
"Thanks to you, Dad," she said, dipping her brush into golden paint. "For a long time, I forgot what the light even looked like."
"You found it again yourself," Elias said gently. "I just opened the door."
A black truck pulled up the long gravel driveway. Out stepped Marcus, Elias’s former second-in-command from his special operations days, wearing civilian clothes and carrying a thick leather binder.
"Colonel," Marcus said, stepping up onto the porch with a respectful nod. "Audrey. Looking great."
"Hi, Uncle Marcus," Audrey smiled. "How are the foundation papers coming along?"
"Fully approved by the state board yesterday," Marcus replied, handing the binder to Audrey. "The Audrey Vale Foundation for Survivors of Domestic Abuse and Abduction is officially open. The initial funding from the Thorne asset liquidation has already established three safe houses and a 24/7 legal aid clinic."

Audrey looked at the documents, tears of joy filling her eyes. "We're going to help so many women... women who thought no one was coming for them."
"You're giving them a voice, Audrey," Elias said proudly. "Just like you reclaimed yours."
