Chapter 5 - The Corporate Fallout

The cancellation of the Sterling-Vale wedding was not just a social scandal—it was a financial catastrophe for Daniel.
By 2:00 PM that afternoon, news of the ruined ceremony and the revelation of Daniel’s abandoned triplets had dominated every regional business news outlet and social media platform.
The image of me stepping out of the limousine in my emerald gown alongside my three flawless children became the viral image of the month. The media dubbed it "The Emerald Redemption."
While my boutique’s website crashed due to hundreds of thousands of new visitors trying to order dresses from my collection, Daniel’s world began to implode in real time.
I sat in my spacious office at Vance Atelier downtown, holding a hot cup of tea while my head of public relations, Rachel, presented the afternoon media reports on the big screen.
"His primary investor, Sterling Capital, officially pulled their eight-million-dollar funding line at 1:30 PM," Rachel reported, pointing at the financial chart on the wall. "Without Arthur Sterling’s backing, Daniel’s software firm can't clear its payroll for next month. Furthermore, two of his major corporate clients have terminated their contracts citing 'reputational risk.'"
Leo, Ethan, and Maya were sitting at a small table in the corner of my office, drawing pictures with colored pencils.
Leo looked up from his sketchpad. "Mommy? Is that mean man from the hotel going to bother us anymore?"
I stood up, walked over to their table, and knelt beside my son. I smoothed back his dark hair and gave him a warm, comforting smile. "No, sweetie. Nobody is going to bother us. You three did so well today. I’m so proud of you."
Maya held up her drawing. It was a picture of the four of us standing in front of our boutique, under a bright yellow sun, holding hands. "We don't need him, Mommy. We have each other."
"That’s right, my love," I kissed her cheek softly. "We always have."
Just then, my office door opened. Sarah, my assistant, stepped inside with a tense expression on her face.
"Clara," Sarah said quietly. "Daniel is downstairs in the lobby. He’s causing a scene with security. He’s demanding to see you."
I stood up slowly, smoothing the skirt of my emerald dress. "Tell security to let him up, Sarah. But keep the children in the private back room with you."

"Are you sure, Clara?" Rachel asked nervously. "He looks desperate."
"Desperate men are easy to deal with, Rachel," I said calmly. "Because they no longer have any cards left to play."
