Chapter 10 - The Complete Family

Three years later.
The sun was setting over the private beach behind the Cole coastal estate, painting the sky in brilliant hues of orange, gold, and deep violet.
On the sandy shore, a high-pitched sound of laughter echoed over the sound of gentle waves.
Maya, now ten years old, was running along the tide line, leading her younger sisters in a game of chase. Chloe was laughing hysterically, trying to avoid getting her shoes wet, while Lily sat near a large piece of driftwood, her sketchbook resting on her knees, capturing the setting sun with vibrant watercolors.
Near the water's edge, a small wooden blanket was laid out.
Sienna sat on the blanket, resting comfortably, holding a tiny, four-month-old baby wrapped in a soft blue blanket. Little Leo Cole—their newborn son—was fast asleep, his tiny fist tucked under his chin, possessing his father's dark hair and gentle features.
Adrian walked down from the beach house, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and fruit. He had discarded his corporate suit, wearing a relaxed linen shirt and rolled-up trousers, his hair tousled by the sea breeze.
He set the tray down on the blanket and sat beside Sienna, sliding his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close into his side. He leaned down and kissed the top of baby Leo's head, then kissed Sienna softly on the lips.
"Is he asleep?" Adrian asked softly.
"Out cold," Sienna smiled, looking down at their son with deep contentment. "The sea air always puts him right to sleep."
Maya, Chloe, and Lily came running back toward the blanket, their feet covered in sand, laughing and breathless.
"Daddy! Lily drew another picture!" Chloe announced, collapsing onto the blanket beside Adrian and grabbing a slice of watermelon.
Lily walked over quietly, leaning against Adrian’s knee, and turned her sketchbook toward him.
The drawing showed the beach, the sunset, the vast ocean, and six figures holding hands along the sand. A daddy, a mommy, three growing girls, and a baby brother. Above them, in bold, neat letters, Lily had written:
OUR FOREVER HOME.
Adrian looked at the drawing, then at his three daughters, his sleeping newborn son, and finally at Sienna, whose eyes were shining with total, unwavering love.
He recalled the day four years ago when he had walked down a cold, sterile hospital corridor, terrified, lost, and broken by seven years of silence. He remembered the three little girls in pink dresses sitting on the bench, staring up at him with his own eyes.
He had thought that day that he was coming to say goodbye to his past. Instead, he had walked directly into his future.

Adrian pulled Sienna tighter against his chest, wrapping his free arm around Maya, Chloe, and Lily as they snuggled close together on the blanket, watching the sun dip below the horizon of the Pacific Ocean.
"It really is forever," Adrian whispered, kissing Sienna’s cheek as the stars began to twinkle in the twilight sky. "Forever."
