Chapter 6 - Building a Life

With the corporate threat dismantled and Victoria permanently barred from their lives, peace slowly settled over the Cole household.
Sienna’s health recovered fully under the care of top specialists, her cheeks regaining their natural rosy flush and her spirit returning with newfound strength. She was no longer the scared twenty-three-year-old girl who had fled in the middle of the night; she was a resilient mother who had raised three incredible children against all odds.
The penthouse transformed. The cold, sterile minimalist museum that Adrian had inhabited for seven years was now alive with sound, color, and warmth. Crayons littered the marble coffee table, plush toys rested on designer chairs, and the scent of homemade meals replaced the clinical emptiness of takeout boxes.
One Saturday afternoon, Adrian stood in the kitchen, watching Sienna help Maya and Chloe bake cookies. Flour dusted Sienna's nose, and her laughter echoed through the spacious kitchen as Chloe accidentally covered her own cheek in chocolate chips.
Lily sat at the kitchen island near Adrian, her omnipresent notebook open. She was no longer drawing distant figures in the rain; her pages were now filled with bright colors, detailed drawings of their new home, their school, and their family trips to the park.
"Look, Daddy," Lily whispered, nudging her notebook toward him.
Adrian looked down. Lily had drawn a picture of him holding a large, golden key, opening a massive door to a bright garden where all five of them were playing.
"What's the key for, Lily?" Adrian asked softly, sitting beside her and gently tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear.
"It's the key to our house," Lily said, looking up at him with those clear, grey-blue eyes. "Mama said you opened the door for us so we don't have to hide anymore."
Adrian felt a lump form in his throat. He wrapped his arm around his youngest daughter, pulling her close against his side. "I'll always keep the door open for you, sweetie."
Sienna walked over, holding two warm cookies on a small plate, wiping her flour-covered hands on an apron. She looked at Adrian, her eyes soft with an affection that had survived seven years of hardship and separation.
"They're going to bed early tonight," Sienna murmured with a playful smile. "The tutor said they ran three miles during gym class today."
"Good," Adrian smiled, stepping closer to her, his hand resting gently on her waist. "That means I finally get you to myself for more than ten minutes."
Sienna blushed, looking down at his hand on her waist. "Adrian... we haven't really talked about... us. Things have moved so fast with the court, your mother, and the girls' school..."
"There's no rush, Sienna," Adrian said gently, lifting her chin with his index finger so she had to look at him. "I spent seven years living in a cold world without you. I will spend the next seven years proving to you that I am worthy of your heart again, if that's what it takes."

Sienna looked into his eyes—the eyes that had once looked at her with youthful arrogance, now filled with deep maturity, patience, and devotion.
"You don't need seven years, Adrian," she whispered. "You've already proven it."
