Chapter 8 - The Question

Two months later, winter had arrived in Seattle. Snow fell gently outside the high floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, decorating the city in a blanket of pristine white.
It was Christmas Eve.
The penthouse was transformed into a winter wonderland. A massive fifteen-foot pine tree stood in the corner of the living room, adorned with silver ornaments, twinkling lights, and dozens of colorful presents stacked underneath.
Maya, Chloe, and Lily were dressed in matching red velvet dresses, running around the tree, singing along to holiday music playing softly through the surround-sound speakers.
Sienna stood near the fireplace, wearing a soft cream sweater, holding a glass of warm apple cider. She watched her daughters with a gentle, serene smile—a smile completely free of the grief and exhaustion that had plagued her for seven long years.
Adrian stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin lightly on her shoulder.
"Happy Christmas Eve, Sienna," he murmured.
"It's the best Christmas of my life, Adrian," she replied, leaning back against his warm chest. "Seven years ago, I was sitting in a tiny, unheated apartment, wondering how I was going to buy milk for three babies. Today... they have everything they could ever dream of."
"Not everything," Adrian whispered into her ear. "There's still one thing missing."
Sienna turned around in his arms, looking up at him with a puzzled expression. "What do you mean?"
Adrian stepped back slightly. He reached into his suit jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box.
Sienna’s breath caught in her throat. Her hands flew to her mouth.
"Maya! Chloe! Lily!" Adrian called out softly.
The three little girls stopped playing instantly and ran over, gathering around their parents, their eyes wide with excitement.
Adrian lowered himself to one knee on the plush rug before Sienna. He opened the mahogany box. Inside rested a magnificent pear-cut diamond ring, surrounded by three smaller sapphire stones—representing Maya, Chloe, and Lily.
"Sienna," Adrian said, his voice deep, clear, and filled with an emotion so powerful it made his hands tremble slightly. "Seven years ago, I lost you because I was too foolish, too arrogant, and too blind to see what truly mattered. I spent seven years existing in a world without color, without joy, and without love."
He looked up into her tear-filled eyes, his own grey-blue gaze shining with absolute devotion.
"You gave me the greatest gift of my life when you brought Maya, Chloe, and Lily into this world. You protected them, loved them, and brought them back to me. Now, I want to spend the rest of my days giving you the love, safety, and happiness you have always deserved."
Maya squeezed Chloe’s hand, whispered happily, "Say yes, Mama!"
Chloe nodded vigorously. "Yes! Say yes!"
Lily reached into her small velvet pocket, pulled out her crayon-drawn picture of the family under the sun, and held it up beside Adrian.
Sienna let out a tearful laugh, tears of pure joy streaming down her cheeks. She dropped to her knees in front of Adrian, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him into a passionate, breathtaking kiss.

"Yes," Sienna cried softly against his lips. "Yes, Adrian! A thousand times yes!"
The triplets erupted into cheerful applause, jumping up and down, throwing themselves into their parents' arms, creating a chaotic, joyous pile of laughter and warm hugs in front of the glowing Christmas tree.
