Chapter 4 - The Intercept at the Docks

That night, wind whipped across the frozen waters of the Chicago River near the industrial shipping yards of Calumet Harbor.

Evelyn sat inside Adrian’s armored command vehicle parked near a row of rusted shipping containers, monitoring the live security feeds alongside Marcus. Adrian had refused to leave her behind at the villa, knowing she was the only one who could verify the digital encryption keys Grant had used to hide his financial ledgers.

"Target sighted," Marcus whispered, pointing to a thermal camera feed on the monitor.

Through the fog, three black luxury sedans pulled up beside an old grain elevator. A terrified, disheveled Grant Mercer was pushed out of the lead vehicle by two armed men in heavy leather jackets.

"They aren't helping him escape," Evelyn gasped, watching the screen. "They're going to execute him!"

"Not on my watch," Adrian’s voice crackled through the tactical radio.

Suddenly, floodlights blinded the alleyway. Four heavy tactical vehicles belonging to Adrian’s security network blocked the exits, trapping Moretti’s hitmen against the riverbank.

Gunfire erupted into the freezing night air.

Grant shrieked in terror, diving beneath a metal loading ramp as Adrian’s team moved with military precision. Within four minutes, Moretti’s hitmen were disarmed and pinned to the frozen pavement.

Adrian stepped out of the shadow of a shipping container, walking slowly toward the shivering coward cowering under the ramp.

He dragged Grant out by his collar, tossing him onto the hood of a vehicle.

"Mr. Vale! Please! I was forced into it!" Grant whimpered, his face covered in grease and sweat. "Moretti threatened my family!"

"You didn't care about families when you tried to destroy Evelyn Hart's," Adrian said coldly, leaning over him. "You’re going to step in front of that Federal Judge, Grant. And you’re going to tell them every single detail about Moretti’s network."
