Chapter 9 - The Evening at the Gala
A month later, Vale Meridian Holdings hosted its annual charity gala at the historic Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago.
The grand ballroom was illuminated by massive crystal chandeliers, filled with city leaders, judges, business executives, and international dignitaries.
Evelyn walked down the grand staircase wearing an elegant emerald-green silk gown, her hair styled in soft waves.
Beside her, walking slowly with the aid of a stylish silver cane, was Paige, wearing a matching gold dress, smiling brightly as guests welcomed them warmly.
Adrian waited at the bottom of the staircase, dressed in a sharp black tuxedo.
When Evelyn reached the floor, Adrian offered her his arm, leading her to the head table.
Throughout the evening, city leaders who had once looked down on Lakeside Freight employees approached Evelyn with profound respect, acknowledging her courage in exposing corporate corruption across the Midwest.
Later that night, as a jazz orchestra played soft music near the terrace, Adrian led Evelyn out into the quiet moonlit garden overlooking the lake.

"You look stunning tonight, Evelyn," Adrian said softly, taking her hand into his.
"I feel like I'm living a life I used to only dream about," Evelyn whispered, stepping closer to him.
