Chapter 10 - Dawn After the Storm

Six months later, the mountain air above Blackwood Manor was warm, filled with the green scent of pine and wild clover under a brilliant summer sun.

The court cases had moved with overwhelming swiftness. Marcus Kane and Dr. Arthur Vance were convicted on federal charges of attempted murder, conspiracy, and multi-million-dollar insurance fraud, receiving life sentences without the possibility of parole. The medical board was thoroughly purged of corruption, and all assets were restored to Sarah and her children.

On the front lawn of the manor, the sound of happy laughter echoed across the grounds.

Lily, now healthy and vibrant, was chasing a golden retriever puppy through the grass, her green eyes bright with joy. Near the renovated conservatory, two small wooden cribs rested under the shade of an oak tree, where the twins gurgled happily in the sunlight.

Sarah stood on the veranda, holding a tray of fresh lemonade. The exhaustion that had shadowed her face for seven years was completely gone, replaced by peace and quiet strength.

Nathan walked out from his study, stepping down onto the porch beside his sister. He looked out over his estate—no longer a cold, isolated fortress against the world, but a true home filled with life.

"They're starting school in the valley next month," Sarah said softly, handing Nathan a glass. "Lily keeps telling her friends that her uncle is a superhero who stops monsters."

Nathan smiled, taking a sip as he watched his niece run across the lawn.

"I'm just a surgeon, Sarah," Nathan said, leaning against the railing, his heart full and steady. "I just cut away what was broken so the rest could heal."

Sarah wrapped her arm through his, resting her head against his shoulder as the children's laughter filled the afternoon air—a bright, warm dawn after the longest storm.
