Chapter 6 - Sacrifices in the Sub-Zero

With the second mercenary eliminated, Marcus fled back toward the central hall, desperate and bleeding. But inside the basement, a new crisis emerged.
The disruption to the electrical grid had caused the thermal incubators to shut down. The baby twins' heart rates were dropping rapidly on the emergency telemetry monitors—forty beats per minute and falling.
"Doctor Nathan!" Rosa cried out through the communicator. "The babies are going into bradycardia! The digitalis toxin is overloading their systems without the continuous warming therapy!"
Nathan needed a specific cardiac antagonist—Atropine and Digoxin Immune Fab—stored in his secondary detached laboratory across the snow-covered courtyard.
Without hesitation, Nathan stepped back into the freezing blizzard outside. The wind slashed at his skin like razor blades, visibility dropped to less than three feet, but his steps were unwavering.

He reached the detached lab, smashed the window, and retrieved the cold-chain medical kit containing the life-saving antitoxin. As he turned to sprint back toward the main house, a shadow emerged from the whiteout.
Marcus tackled Nathan into the deep snowdrifts, sending the medical kit sliding across the ice.
