Chapter 9 - The Final Standoff

The abandoned timber mill stood like a jagged shadow against the rising morning sun. Inside, Sarah was tied to a wooden pillar, guarded by Dr. Vance’s personal security detail. Outside, tactical officers surrounded the perimeter, rifles trained on the entrances.
Dr. Vance stood over Sarah, clutching a briefcase packed with bearer bonds and passports.
"Marcus failed," Vance said coldly, checking his watch. "The federal warrants were issued thirty minutes ago. You are my only leverage to cross the border, Sarah."
"My brother will never let you leave," Sarah said, her voice filled with quiet defiance despite her bruises.
"Your brother is a doctor, not a soldier," Vance sneered.
Suddenly, the structural skylights of the mill shattered as tactical stun grenades detonated inside the hall. Flashbangs blinded the guards, followed immediately by the breach team rushing through the entry points.
In the chaotic crossfire, Vance grabbed Sarah, holding a weapon to her side as he backed toward the rear exit.
Nathan burst through the side doors, spotting Vance instantly. "Arthur! It's over! Marcus confessed everything!"
Vance hesitated for a fraction of a second, shifting his sight toward Nathan. That single second was all Sarah needed. She violently drove her elbow into Vance’s ribs, breaking his stance.
Nathan charged forward, tackling Vance to the ground. Tactical officers swarmed the floor, pinning Vance to the concrete and snapping handcuffs over his wrists.
Nathan ignored the commotion, throwing his arms around his sister. Sarah wept openly, clutching Nathan’s coat tightly.

"I'm sorry, Nathan... I'm so sorry I didn't listen to you seven years ago," she sobbed.
"You brought them to me, Sarah," Nathan whispered, kissing her forehead. "You saved them. It's over now."
