Chapter 4 - The Silent Guardian

Inside the estate's reinforced bunker—fortified thirty feet beneath the foundations—Sophie sat on a plush couch, clutching her stuffed bear.
When the heavy steel door opened, and Dominic walked in leading Emily and Lucy, Sophie ran into her father’s arms. "Daddy! The loud noises..."
"It’s okay, baby. The guards are taking care of it," Dominic reassured her, kissing her forehead.
He placed Sophie next to Lucy on the sofa. Little Lucy looked at Sophie, her small eyes wide with concern. She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a small, half-crushed chocolate wrapped in foil.
"For you," Lucy whispered, offering it to Sophie. "Because it's your birthday."
Sophie looked at the candy, then smiled through her tears, taking it. "Thank you, Lucy."
Dominic watched the interaction, feeling a profound wave of gratitude. Emily Price was a widowed mother who worked eighty hours a week between two cleaning jobs just to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment in South Philly. Her child had no luxury, no bodyguards, no millions in bank accounts—yet that little girl had possessed the observational sharp instinct that saved fifty lives.
Dominic walked over to Emily, who was trembling on an armchair.
"Emily," he said softly. "When this night ends, your life changes."
Emily looked up, confused. "Sir?"
"You don't clean houses anymore," Dominic said with absolute finality. "You and Lucy are under my personal protection for the rest of your lives. I will provide you with a house, security, and Lucy’s entire education will be funded through my family trust."

"Mr. Caruso, I can't accept that—"
"You saved my daughter's life," Dominic interrupted gently. "There is no price on earth that can repay that."
