Chapter 9 - Healing and Alliances

The weeks following the pier incident were dedicated to healing.

Mr. Bianchi made a full recovery, and Leo purchased the entire block where the café was located, gifting the deed to the old man so he would never have to worry about rent or developers again. The café was rebuilt, grander and safer than before, with a subtle, discreet security detail always watching over it.

At the Moretti estate, the atmosphere shifted. The heavy, oppressive security was replaced by a more integrated, intelligent system. Leo realized that protecting Bella didn't mean locking her in a cage; it meant giving her the tools to protect herself.

Bella began taking self-defense classes with Francesca, finding a surprising amount of strength and confidence in the physical training. She was no longer just the girl who picked up oranges; she was becoming a woman who could stand beside the Don, not just behind him.

One evening, they hosted a dinner at the estate. But this time, it wasn't a tense meeting of syndicate captains. It was a celebration.

Marco, now fully healed, sat at the table laughing with Francesca. Mr. Bianchi was there, dressed in a sharp new suit, drinking wine and telling embarrassing stories about Bella’s first day at the café when she accidentally dropped an entire tray of cappuccinos on a city councilman.

Leo watched the scene with a profound sense of peace. He sat beside Bella, his hand resting gently over hers on the table.

"You did this," Leo whispered to her, leaning close.

"Did what?" Bella asked, smiling.

"You brought life back into this mausoleum," he said, looking around the room. "I spent thirty years surviving, Bella. But tonight, looking at this... I am actually living."

Bella turned her hand, interlocking her fingers with his. "This is just the beginning, Leo. We have a lot of living left to do."
