Chapter 2 - The Silent Alarm

The red lights above the doors of Emergency Operating Room 4 hummed with a terrifying consistency. Outside in the sanitized, white-tiled hallway, Marcus sat on a metal bench, his hands clasped, staring at the floor. The cuffs of his crisp white shirt were stained with Khloe’s blood and the residue of spilled champagne.
Beside him, Arthur stood near the wall, staring at an encrypted tablet provided by the hospital’s IT security chief. On the screen, the entire incident was playing in crisp, high-definition resolution.
The video left no room for interpretation. It showed Isabella cornering Khloe, the deliberate shoves against the marble table, and the cruel, calculated kick delivered directly to Khloe's pregnant abdomen with her sharp stiletto heel. It recorded Isabella's icy words: “You were supposed to know your place...”
"This isn't just an assault," Arthur said quietly, his thumb tracing the edges of the tablet screen, his knuckles white. "This is premeditated violence. She knew Khloe was vulnerable. She brought her up here under the pretense of delivering a message from the gala organizers."
Marcus took a slow, deep breath, shutting his eyes for a moment to force the red fog of fury out of his mind. When he opened them, the cold strategist had returned. "Where is Isabella now?"
"Being held in the private security office downstairs," Arthur replied. "Her family’s legal team is already blowing up the hospital switchboard. The Rossi family is trying to pull strings with the district attorney's office to spin this as an 'accidental clash' between two women."
Marcus stood up slowly. "They won't get the chance. Call our head of legal, Jonathan Vance. Tell him to execute Operation Blackout."
Arthur looked up, surprised. "Blackout? Marcus... that will wipe out the Rossi family’s corporate line of credit overnight. It’ll start a war on Wall Street."
"Good," Marcus said, his voice flat. "I want their stock frozen by morning. I want every contract they hold with Thorne Global terminated by sunrise. And tell Jonathan to release the unedited surveillance video to every major news network at 6:00 AM sharp."
Before Arthur could answer, the double doors of the operating room swung open. The lead OB-GYN surgeon stepped out, pulling off her surgical mask. Marcus was instantly at her side.
"How are they?" Marcus demanded, his composure cracking for a split second.
"It was touch and go, Mr. Thorne," the surgeon reported solemnly. "The impact caused a partial placental abruption. We managed to stabilize the internal bleeding without having to perform an emergency C-section tonight, but your wife is in critical condition. The next seventy-two hours are crucial. The baby's heart rate is stable for now, but Khloe is under strict bed rest and high-level monitoring."
Marcus let out a long breath he felt he had been holding for an hour. "Can I see her?"
"She's conscious, but weak," the surgeon nodded. "Only for a few minutes."
Marcus pushed past the doors into the quiet room. Khloe lay in the bed, hooked up to IVs and heart monitors, looking tiny against the crisp white sheets. Her skin was dangerously pale, but her eyes opened slowly as he approached.
"Marcus..." she whispered, her voice barely a thread.
He immediately knelt beside her bed, taking her cold hand in his, pressing his forehead against her fingers. "I'm here, Khloe. I'm right here. The baby is okay. You're both safe."

Tears trickled down Khloe's cheeks. "She... she wanted to kill our baby, Marcus. She stood over me and smiled..."
"She will pay for every second of pain she caused you," Marcus vowed softly, kissing her knuckles. "I swear it to you, Khloe. Nobody will ever touch you again."
