Chapter 6 - The Cornered Snake

Elaine stopped, a bitter, unhinged laugh escaping her lips. Her clothes were disheveled, and her face was pale from days of hiding.

"Put the gun down, Marcus!" Elaine hissed, clutching the crowbar tightly. "You ruined my life! I was just doing a job! Isabella promised me five hundred thousand dollars! I deserved that money!"

"You helped assault a pregnant woman for cash," Marcus said, his voice flat, his hand unfathomably steady on the trigger. "You are an accessory to attempted murder."

"I didn't know she was going to kick her!" Elaine screamed, tears of panic welling in her eyes. "She told me she just wanted to confront her! To show her the pictures!"

Khloe’s voice broke through the tension from behind Marcus. "What pictures, Elaine?"

Elaine sneered, looking past Marcus at Khloe. "The photos Isabella had fabricated! Deepfakes of you with another man! She was going to show them to Marcus at the gala to destroy your marriage! But when you went upstairs early, Isabella lost her mind because her little play failed!"

The truth hung in the air like poison. Isabella hadn't just used physical violence; she had prepared a systematic character assassination designed to destroy Khloe’s reputation and isolate her from Marcus completely.

"It doesn't matter anymore," Marcus said coldly. "Lower the crowbar, Elaine. You have five seconds before I put a bullet in you."

"If I go back to prison, I'm dead anyway!" Elaine shrieked, raising the crowbar and lunging forward into the room.

BANG.

A single shot echoed through the bedroom suite.

Elaine collapsed onto the carpet, dropping the crowbar with a heavy metallic thud. The bullet had struck her shoulder, instantly neutralizing her threat. Within seconds, four armed security guards rushed through the door, pinning her to the floor and applying a tourniquet while calling for an ambulance.

Marcus immediately lowered his weapon, clicking the safety back on, and turned to Khloe. He pulled her into his arms, wrapping his body around her as she sobbed into his chest.

"It's over," Marcus whispered, burying his face in her hair. "It's over, Khloe. Nobody can hurt us now."

Outside, the sound of police sirens cut through the night as backup security forces secured the entire perimeter. The final lingering shadow of Isabella’s plot had been hunted down and brought into the light.
