Chapter 4 - Playing with Fire

While Dominic formulated a tactical plan to board the Vincenzo before it sailed, Elena discovered something buried deep within the encrypted files of the Genoa port authority.

"Dominic, look at this," she called out, her voice urgent.

He walked over to her desk. On her screen was a series of financial transactions routed through a shell company called Vancini Holdings.

"Lucian isn't just using brute force," Elena explained. "He’s shorting Moretti Logistics stock on the European market. He’s engineered this entire crisis to tank our stock value, and he’s planning to buy a controlling share through this shell company tomorrow morning. If he succeeds, he won't need to steal the company. He will legally own it."

"He’s fighting a war on two fronts," Dominic muttered. "Tactical and financial."

"And we can fight back on both," Elena said, a fierce glint in her eyes. "If I can trace the origin of the funds in Vancini Holdings, I can prove to the European regulators that the money is dirty—tied to his drug operations in the Balkans. It will freeze his accounts instantly, stopping the stock buyback."

"But to do that, you need access to the local bank’s main server in Milan," Dominic realized. "And Lucian will have it heavily guarded."

"Then we divide and conquer," Elena said. "You save the Vincenzo. I will handle the bank."

Dominic didn't like it. The thought of Elena going to Milan without him made his stomach turn. But he knew she was right. They had to strike back hard and fast. He assigned his most trusted elite bodyguards, led by a seasoned veteran named Marcus, to protect her.

That night, under the cover of a torrential downpour, Dominic and a team of loyal operatives boarded the Vincenzo as it sat anchored in the outer harbor. They slipped past the corrupted harbor guards, moving like shadows through the rain-slicked decks.

Deep inside the ship's cargo hold, they found the containers. But as Dominic pried open the doors of the target container, he didn't find crates of drugs.

Instead, he found a digital timer counting down from ten minutes, wired to several military-grade C4 charges.

At the same moment, in Milan, Elena and Marcus entered the secure server room of the Vancini-affiliated bank. As Elena plugged her decryption device into the main frame, the lights suddenly went out. The emergency red lights flared on, casting a bloody glow over the room.

The heavy steel doors of the server room slammed shut, locking them inside. From the overhead intercom, Lucian’s voice chuckled.

"You really thought I didn't see you coming, little sister?"
