Chapter 9 - The Celebration at the Lake

That evening, the sun set over Lake Michigan, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of gold, pink, and deep violet.

At the Ferrante estate, the grand patio overlooking the water was illuminated by soft fairy lights. The ocean breeze was cool and gentle, carrying the fresh scent of the water.

All charges and grand jury inquiries had been officially dropped by the U.S. Attorney’s office at 2:00 PM. The victory was complete, undisputed, and absolute.

A small, intimate celebration was underway. Mateo and several senior members of Luca's inner circle stood near the outdoor bar, raising their glasses in toasts, laughing and celebrating the total humiliation of Prosecutor Vance.

Luca stood near the stone balustrade at the edge of the patio, holding a glass of scotch. He wore a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers, looking relaxed, happy, and entirely at peace.

Clara stepped out onto the patio, wearing a soft blue summer dress that blew gently in the evening wind.

Luca turned his head as she approached, his face instantly softening into that rare, tender look he saved exclusively for her. He set his glass down on the wall and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.

"Mateo told me what happened in Vance's office," Luca whispered into her hair, his deep voice rich with pride. "He said you broke the Federal Prosecutor in less than ten minutes without raising your voice once."

Clara laughed softly, resting her hands against his chest, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart. "I told you, Luca. Nobody gets through me to get to you."

Luca looked down at her, his dark eyes shining with an intensity that made her breath catch in her throat.

"Three years ago," Luca said softly, his fingers gently tracing the line of her jaw, "I found a girl freezing in the snow behind a warehouse. I thought I was saving her life."

He leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers.

"I had no idea that she was the one who was going to save mine."

Clara felt tears of sweet, overwhelming happiness prickle her eyes. She reached up, framing his face in her hands.

"We saved each other, Luca," she whispered softly.

"Boss!" Mateo’s voice called out from the patio doors with a wide grin. "The team wants to raise a toast to the Queen!"

Luca turned, keeping his arm firmly around Clara's waist as they walked back toward their family and friends.

Mateo raised his crystal glass high into the evening sky. "To Clara Ferrante! The heart, the shield, and the true power of this family!"

"To Clara!" dozens of voices echoed across the patio, raising their glasses in genuine, deep devotion.

Clara smiled brightly, holding Luca's hand tightly in hers, feeling the warmth of his fingers intertwined with hers.
