Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

An hour later, we arrived at the grand high-rise glass tower in the heart of the city's financial district. This was the headquarters of the Caruso Syndicate’s legitimate holdings. Victor had summoned an emergency meeting of the board and the syndicate elders, attempting to execute a swift corporate takeover in Damian's absence.
The heavy mahogany doors of the penthouse boardroom were pushed open. Damian walked in unannounced, his bloody shirt visible beneath his dark overcoat, his presence instantly freezing the room of twenty high-ranking men.
I walked right beside him, holding Leah securely against my chest.
"Victor!" Damian’s voice echoed like thunder across the expansive room.
Victor stood at the head of the long glass conference table, a fountain pen in hand, halfway through signing an emergency transfer of executive authority. His jaw dropped in utter disbelief. "How are you still alive?"
"You sent amateurs to do a man's job," Damian said coldly, walking toward the head of the table.
Victor panicked, turning to the senior elders surrounding him. "Don't just stand there! He's compromised! He brought a civilian and a illegitimate child into our inner circle! Vote him out!"
"The only thing being voted on today is your execution," Damian countered. He gestured toward the high-definition display monitors mounted on the wall.

At a signal from Damian's remote control, the screens illuminated, displaying a trail of bank statements, offshore wire transfers, and wiretapped audio recordings obtained from Zurich. Victor’s voice rang out clearly through the room's speaker system, explicitly detailing his plan to kidnap my newborn daughter and replace her to secure the family trust.
The room erupted into furious shouts as the elder syndicate members realized Victor had brought federal scrutiny and treason into their organization for his own personal gain.
