Chapter 16 - Confrontation in the Storm

A fierce summer storm raged over the coast of Maine as Dominic and his elite squad descended upon the abandoned lighthouse. Waves crashed violently against the jagged rocks, the thunder drowning out the sound of their approach.
Dominic led the breach, clearing the lower levels with lethal efficiency. The Obsidian Ring operatives were caught completely off guard. The narrow spiral staircase of the lighthouse became a vertical battlefield.
At the top of the tower, Dominic found Valentin Borzov waiting for him. Beside Valentin stood Marcus, his hands bound, a knife pressed against his throat. Marcus’s face was bruised and bloodied; it was clear he had been forced into his role through torture and coercion, rather than pure malice.
"Ah, the great Dominic Rossi," Valentin sneered, his voice cutting through the sound of the wind outside. "The man who traded his crown for a domestic fairy tale."
"Let Marcus go, Valentin," Dominic said, his rifle aimed steady at Borzov's chest. "Your fight is with me."
"My fight is with your entire bloodline," Valentin hissed. "Your father killed my family. You killed my brother. It is only fitting that I erase everything you love."
With a sudden, desperate movement, Marcus threw his weight backward, knocking Valentin off balance. "Shoot him, Dom!" Marcus screamed.
Valentin reacted instantly, firing his weapon. The bullet struck Marcus in the chest. In the same split second, Dominic opened fire. Valentin was hit multiple times, stumbling backward against the shattered glass of the lighthouse window. With a final, choked gasp, Borzov fell backward into the churning, black sea below.
Dominic rushed to Marcus's side, putting pressure on his wound. "Stay with me, Marcus!"

Marcus looked up, a bloody smile on his lips. "I... I didn't sell you out completely, Dom... I changed the codes... to protect Harper... I'm sorry..."
Marcus closed his eyes for the last time, his final act one of redemption. Dominic stood alone in the storm, victorious but scarred by the cost of his past.
