Chapter 9 - A Home Built on Love

Six months later.
The spring sun shone brightly over the rolling green hills of Oak Brook, Illinois, illuminating a magnificent, modern glass-and-stone estate overlooking a quiet private lake.
The house had been designed entirely by Sofia Mendoza—her first master architectural project since her full reinstatement. It featured wide open spaces, warm timber beams, floor-to-ceiling windows that let in endless natural sunlight, and a vast backyard filled with blooming tulip gardens and a handmade wooden playground set.
In the backyard, a large white marquee tent had been set up for a quiet, intimate wedding ceremony.
Soft piano music drifted through the warm afternoon breeze.
Javier stood beneath a canopy of white roses, dressed in an immaculate charcoal tuxedo, his eyes fixed on the wooden bridge crossing the small garden stream.
Standing beside him as his best man was Arthur Vance, holding little three-year-old Leo, who was wearing a adorable mini tuxedo and holding a small basket of velvet flower petals.
The piano music shifted into a gentle, breathtaking melody.
Across the wooden bridge walked eight-year-old Lucía, wearing a beautiful yellow chiffon flower-girl dress that mirrored the dress she had worn on that fateful Tuesday morning six months ago. She carried a bouquet of wild lavender, smiling radiantly as she walked down the aisle.
And then came Sofia.
She looked breathtaking beyond words. Her wedding gown was a simple, elegant ivory silk that flowed gracefully around her as she walked. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves adorned with small white jasmine flowers, and her hazel eyes burned with a profound, radiant happiness that lit up the entire garden.
As she reached the canopy, Javier stepped forward, taking both of her hands into his own.
"You look impossible," Javier whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"I love you," Sofia smiled back, her eyes shining with tears of joy.
The justice of the peace stepped forward, smiling warmly at the couple and the small family gathered around them.
"We are gathered here today," the justice began, "not merely to unite two lives, but to celebrate the triumph of truth, courage, and a love that survived the darkest storms."
When the time came for the exchange of vows, Javier looked down into Sofia’s eyes, holding her hands tightly.
"Sofia," Javier said, his voice clear and resonant in the quiet afternoon air. "Eight years ago, I thought I lost the light of my life. I spent years surrounded by concrete and glass, living in an empty world. But a little girl in a yellow dress walked into my life holding your folder, and brought me back to reality. I promise to spend every day of my life protecting you, honoring you, and building a home where fear will never touch our family again."
Sofia wiped a gentle tear from her cheek, smiling brightly.
"Javier," Sofia said softly. "You never gave up on the memory of who we were. You fought for our daughter before you even knew her name, and you gave us a home when we had nothing left. I promise to love you, to trust you, and to build a future together filled with laughter, hope, and peace."
"By the power vested in me," the justice declared, smiling broadly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"

Javier pulled Sofia into his arms, kissing her deeply as the small gathering erupted into joyful applause.
Lucía cheered, jumping up and down in her yellow dress, while little Leo tossed his velvet petals into the air, shouting happily: "Mama! Daddy! Yay!"
