Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Celebration

The announcement of the engagement between Alexander Sterling and Elena Winters sent a wave of genuine joy through the city. Unlike the cold, transactional matches of the past, this was a union built on the foundations of pure courage, survival, and an unyielding, protective love.
The wedding preparations were handled not by high-priced event planners, but by Elena and Madam Margaret themselves. The grand ballroom—the very room where Victoria Vance had raised her hand to strike a helpless old woman—was completely transformed.
The cold marble and crystal were softened by thousands of cascading white wisterias, warm amber fairy lights, and long wooden banquet tables designed to bring people together rather than separate them by rank. Elena had insisted that every single member of the palace staff—from the laundry workers to the kitchen preps—be invited as honored guests, sitting alongside the city’s top diplomats and corporate leaders.
On the morning of the ceremony, Elena stood before the full-length mirror in the residential suite. She wore a simple, breathtaking ivory gown of silk and delicate lace, her hair pinned up with a single silver hairpin that had belonged to Margaret's grandmother.
The door peeked open, and Margaret wheeled herself into the room, her face glowing with a vitality she hadn't possessed in decades. She reached up, placing a magnificent diamond and emerald necklace around Elena's neck.
"This belonged to the first matriarch of this house, Elena," Margaret whispered, her eyes shining with tears of pure happiness. "She was a woman from a small farming village who built this empire through pure, unyielding love. When my husband died, I thought the light in this palace had gone out forever. But you... you brought the sunshine back."

Elena knelt down, hugging the elderly woman tightly. "Thank you, Mother Margaret. Thank you for believing in me when the whole world was looking at that ledger."
"A mother always knows a true heart, my dear," Margaret smiled, wiping a tear from Elena's cheek. "Now go. My son has been pacing the altar for three hours. I think he is terrified you'll realize you're too good for him."
