Chapter 8 - The Grand Wedding

The storm passed, giving way to the most radiant morning Sicily had seen in decades. The sky was an unblemished canopy of sapphire blue, and the scent of blooming orange blossoms drifted from the coastal cliffs.
The ancient Chapel of Saint Nicholas, located within the estate grounds, was filled with guests. But these were not the dark, dangerous cartel leaders of New York. They were the local villagers, the loyal guards and their families, and the true allies Damiano had cultivated over a lifetime.
Organ music resonated through the stone arches as the double oak doors swung open.
Sophia walked down the aisle, taking Damiano’s breath away. Her dress was a masterpiece of white Italian lace, cascading smoothly over her silhouette, trailing a long veil that shimmered in the morning light. She looked every bit the queen she was born to be—proud, radiant, and undeniably strong.
Preceding her down the aisle was Emma, acting as the flower girl. She scattered red rose petals over the stone path, wearing a matching white dress and wearing a small crown of woven olive leaves in her hair.
When Sophia reached the altar, Damiano took her hands in his. He was dressed in a pristine black tux, looking impossibly handsome, his grey eyes softened by profound love and devotion.
The old Sicilian priest smiled at them both, raising his hands in blessing.
"We are gathered here today," the priest’s voice echoed in soft Italian, "to unite two souls who have walked through the fire and emerged as one."
When it came time for the vows, Damiano looked directly into Sophia’s eyes, his voice steady and echoing with deep sincerity.
"Sophia, I was a man living in the dark, surrounded by empires built on fear. You brought light into my world. You showed me that real power is found in love, loyalty, and family. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and protect you and Emma with my very life, for all the days I draw breath."
Sophia’s eyes brimmed with happy tears as she squeezed his hands.
"Damiano, you took two forgotten souls and gave us a home. You showed my daughter what it means to be brave, and you showed me what it means to be truly loved. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal devotion, now and forever."
"By the authority vested in me," the priest proclaimed, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Damiano pulled Sophia close, dipping her gently as he pressed his lips to hers in a passion-filled kiss that brought the entire chapel to its feet in roaring cheers and applause.
Outside, church bells rang out across the cliffs of Taormina, signaling to the world that a new era had officially begun.
