Chapter 6 - The Legal War Begins

The weeks following the delivery were a whirlwind of recovery, sleepless nights, and intense legal preparation. Clara moved into her parents' spacious home, which they had quickly outfitted with a beautiful, state-of-the-art nursery for Leo and Maya.

But Blake and Diane were not going down without a fight.

Diane hired a high-priced, aggressive family lawyer named Richard Vance (no relation to the detective) who specialized in tearing down mothers to secure joint custody for wealthy fathers.

"They are going to drag your name through the mud, Clara," Sarah Jenkins warned her during a meeting in the sunlit dining room. "They are claiming that you have postpartum depression, that you are unstable, and that you are weaponizing the birth of the twins to alienate Blake from his children."

Clara looked down at Maya, who was sleeping peacefully in her arms, while Leo slept in a bassinet nearby. "Let them try. We have the truth on our side."

"We need more than the truth, Clara. We need hard evidence," Sarah said. "The police report from the night of the birth is good, but Blake's lawyer is arguing that it was a 'tragic communication breakdown' rather than intentional neglect. They are painting Blake as a panicked, young husband who simply made a mistake."

"A mistake?" Clara's voice trembled with anger. "He locked me in!"

"Did he lock you in, or did the door lock automatically?" Sarah asked gently. "That is the loophole they are trying to exploit. If we want to win sole custody and secure criminal charges against him, we need undeniable proof of his intent."

Clara paused, her mind racing back to the months leading up to the birth. Suddenly, a memory clicked.

"The Ring doorbell," Clara whispered.

Sarah raised an eyebrow. "Go on."

"Blake installed a high-definition smart doorbell and security cameras around the exterior of the house six months ago," Clara said, her eyes widening. "It records everything—audio and video. It would have captured the entire conversation on the porch. Diane demanding to go to the mall, Blake telling me not to move, and him locking the door behind him."

"Do you have the login credentials to that account?" Sarah asked, a sharp, victorious smile spreading across her face.

"I do," Clara said, reaching for her laptop. "And I pray to God he hasn't deleted the footage yet."
