Chapter 7 - Exposing the Truth

Clara's fingers flew across the keyboard. Because Blake had always been lazy with technology, he had used a shared password they had used for years. Within minutes, Clara logged into the home security portal.
She scrolled back to the date of her delivery. Her heart hammered against her ribs as she found the video file timestamped at 2:14 PM.
She clicked play.
The audio was crystal clear. On the screen, Clara could be seen leaning against the doorframe, visibly in pain, while Diane stood on the porch, holding a designer catalog.
"Take me and your sister to the mall instead," Diane's voice sneered through the speakers. "The sale ends at five, and I absolutely must have that leather handbag."
"Diane, I'm in high-risk labor!" Clara's recorded voice sounded so small, so frightened.
"Oh, please," Diane scoffed. "First-time mothers always overreact to get attention."
Then came Blake’s voice, sharp and cold as he shook off Clara's hand. "Don’t you dare move until I come back."
The video showed Blake pulling the heavy door shut, taking his keys out, and deliberately turning the deadbolt from the outside, locking his pregnant wife inside the house before walking down the steps, laughing with his sister.
"We have them," Sarah Jenkins said, her voice filled with quiet triumph. "This is not a 'communication breakdown.' This is criminal confinement and reckless endangerment of a pregnant woman and two unborn children."
The next day, Sarah leaked the security footage to a prominent local news outlet, along with a press release detailing the lawsuit.
The reaction was instantaneous and explosive.

Within hours, the video went viral. Social media was flooded with outrage. The hashtag #JusticeForClara trended nationwide. Blake's employer, a prestigious financial firm, released a public statement condemning his actions and immediately terminated his employment. Diane's social circle vanished overnight; she was expelled from her country club, and her prestigious charity board demanded her immediate resignation.
The Sterlings went from high-society darlings to social pariahs in less than twenty-four hours.
