Chapter 9 - The Trial

The court trial was swift and unyielding. The judge reviewed years of evidence: the initial hospital harassment, the fake CPS report, the public slander, the financial extortion, and finally, the park confrontation.
My parents sat on the defense bench, looking defeated and humiliated. Vanessa stood in orange jumpsuit, her eyes wild with defeat.
When it was my turn to testify, I stood tall. “My family believed that love is dictated by blood and transaction. They tried to destroy a traumatized child to assert control. Lily is my daughter in every way that matters, and I will protect her until my last breath.”

The judge’s verdict was scathing. Vanessa was sentenced to two years in state prison. My parents were issued severe fines for civil conspiracy and a lifetime ban from contacting Lily.
As we walked out of the courthouse, my parents tried to look at me, but I walked past them as if they were ghosts. They no longer existed in our world.
