Chapter 8 - THE EVICTION AND FORECLOSURE
With the criminal convictions finalized, the civil asset recovery phase moved forward with relentless speed.
Under federal asset forfeiture statutes, every item, property, and asset purchased using Marissa’s stolen money was seized by court-appointed federal receivers.
On a cold Tuesday morning, federal marshals arrived at Arthur and Carol’s spacious suburban home in Richmond.
A heavy yellow foreclosure notice was slapped onto the front door. Moving vans backed up to the driveway, where federal agents began cataloging and removing every luxury item bought with Marissa's money—the expensive leather couches, the 75-inch televisions, the jet skis stored in the garage, and the brand-new luxury SUVs parked in the driveway.
Greg and Paige’s rented townhouse was similarly cleared out to repay the court-ordered restitution fees totaling $340,000.
Marissa stood alongside FBI Agent Sarah Jenkins, watching the receivers load her parents' luxury SUV onto a flatbed tow truck.
"Every cent has been recovered, Marissa," Sarah reported, handing her an official court receipt. "The sale of their seized assets, combined with the liquidated funds from Finch's seized accounts, completely covers the $140,000 stolen from your trust, plus interest, legal fees, and repair costs for your penthouse door."
Marissa looked at the paperwork, then at the empty house behind the yellow police tape.
"Where will their remaining possessions go?" Marissa asked.

"To a public auction," Sarah replied. "The proceeds will go straight into a court-monitored educational trust fund set up for your nephew Leo and your niece Mia."
Marissa smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached her eyes. "Good. The adults paid for their crimes, but the children deserve a real future."
