Chapter 4 - The Workplace Ambush

Three days later, I returned to my job as the senior manager at the dental clinic. I thought work would provide a safe sanctuary from the drama, but Linda Reynolds was not a woman who accepted defeat gracefully.
Around noon, loud voices erupted in the reception lobby. I stepped out of my office to find Linda standing in the center of the waiting room, surrounded by patients and staff. She was crying dramatic, theatrical tears.
"There she is!" Linda shrieked, pointing a finger at me. "The cruel woman who kicked my son out on the street three days after their wedding! She took his money and abandoned him!"
The clinic staff looked stunned. Patients whispered nervously to one another.
I took a deep breath, remaining completely calm. "Linda, you are trespassing on private medical property. Leave immediately."
"I won't leave until you give my son his rightful share of the home!" she screamed, stepping closer to me, raising her voice for maximum audience effect. "She abused him! She lured him into marriage just to steal his family estate!"
Instead of getting defensive, I calmly pulled out my tablet, opened the security cloud app synced to my apartment's entry camera, and pulled up the footage from four days ago. I turned the screen toward my head doctor and the security guard who had just walked in.
The video clearly showed Linda unlocking my door uninvited, shouting insults, and abruptly causing scalding stew to pour over my legs while I backed away in pain, followed by Jake shouting at me.
The reception desk went dead silent.

"This woman broke into my private residence and gave me second-degree burns," I stated clearly so everyone in the room could hear. "Security, please hand this video footage directly to the officers when you escort her off the premises for harassment."
Linda’s face flushed bright red as the security guard firmly gripped her arm. "Ma'am, you need to step outside right now before we press charges for disturbance and criminal harassment."
