Chapter 5 - Desperate Measures

With her public humiliation fully documented, Linda and Jake realized that gentle pressure and public shaming would not break me. Jake took a far more aggressive approach: he filed an emergency court petition claiming that our prenuptial agreement was signed under duress and demanded temporary spousal support along with exclusive possession of the apartment while divorce proceedings were pending.
Eleanor and I met in her high-rise office downtown to prepare our counter-offensive.
"They're playing dirty because they're backed into a corner," Eleanor said, laying out the court documents. "Jake's creditors are threatening to repossess Reynolds Logistics assets within thirty days. He needs money now."
"What is our move?" I asked.
"We strike at the foundation," Eleanor smiled tightly. "They don't know that you held a secondary financial ledger from your late father's estate."
Years ago, my father had invested in a small regional logistics sub-contracting firm. Before his passing, that firm was absorbed by a larger parent entity—the very same entity that currently held the primary debt notes on Reynolds Logistics. In essence, through my father's legacy trust, I was actually one of the primary debt-holders of Jake's company.

"They think they are fighting a defensive battle over an apartment," I said softly, the full picture becoming clear. "They don't realize I hold the power to foreclose on their entire family business."
"Precisely," Eleanor said. "We hold an emergency hearing on Monday. We present the prenup, the assault evidence, and your corporate debt standing. By the time the judge is done with them, Jake won't just leave empty-handed—he will owe you."
