Chapter 7 - The Reckoning in Court

The courtroom was quiet as the Honorable Judge Martinez reviewed the case files. Jake sat on the opposite side of the aisle with his high-priced lawyer, looking confident. Linda sat in the gallery behind him, wearing a somber black outfit to play the grieving victim's mother.

Jake's lawyer stood up first. "Your Honor, my client married Ms. Mitchell believing they were building a life together. Days after the wedding, Ms. Mitchell physically evicted my client, breached marital harmony, and rendered him homeless while holding significant real estate assets. We request an immediate stay on the prenuptial agreement based on emotional distress and unfair terms."

Judge Martinez looked over her glasses. "Ms. Vance, your response?"

Eleanor stood up calmly. "Your Honor, we submit Exhibit A: the original, fully notarized prenuptial agreement, signed by Mr. Reynolds with independent legal counsel present three weeks prior to the ceremony. We also submit Exhibit B: official medical records detailing second-degree burns inflicted on my client inside her own home by Mr. Reynolds' mother, accompanied by video evidence showing Mr. Reynolds demanding his injured wife apologize."

Eleanor pressed play on a laptop connected to the court monitor. The clear video played out in high definition. The judge watched with an increasingly stern expression as Linda poured the scalding liquid and Jake berated me while I bled and blistered.

"Furthermore," Eleanor continued, "we present Exhibit C: documentation proving that Mr. Reynolds fraudulently concealed over seven hundred thousand dollars in personal and corporate liabilities prior to marriage, attempting to co-sign my client's sole asset to bail out his failing business."

Jake’s lawyer turned pale and leaned over to whisper frantically to Jake, whose face went completely ghost-white. In the gallery, Linda gasped loudly.

Judge Martinez slammed her gavel down. "This court finds the prenuptial agreement entirely valid and enforceable. The request for spousal support and asset sharing is denied with prejudice. Furthermore, given the clear physical evidence of assault and domestic distress, I am issuing an immediate, permanent restraining order against both Jake Reynolds and Linda Reynolds."
