Chapter 8 - Collapse of the Debt

The court verdict was a decisive victory, but the financial consequences for the Reynolds family were just beginning.
Two days after the court ruling, as the primary note-holder through my father's restructured legacy trust, I authorized my financial managers to call in the defaulted loans on Reynolds Logistics. The company had failed to meet three consecutive quarterly debt service payments, giving the trust full legal authority to initiate immediate foreclosure and asset liquidation.
Jake received the formal foreclosure notice on a Thursday morning.
Unable to accept his defeat, he ran to my clinic once more, but this time he couldn't even get past the front gates. The court’s restraining order was in full effect. When he tried to approach my car in the parking lot, two police cruisers pulled up within minutes, intercepting him.
I sat in my driver's seat, watching through the window as officers handcuffed Jake Reynolds for violating a protection order. He looked back at me, his eyes pleading, desperate, and broken. The illusion of his control was completely shattered.
