Chapter 24 - Frame Job

By noon, Elena was sitting on the other side of an interrogation desk in her own building. Internal Affairs had taken over. Agent Carter, a cold woman with a reputation for ruthlessness, paced behind Elena.
"You were found at the scene, Deputy Director. No weapon found on the shooter, but your prints are all over the judge’s vehicle from when you confronted him," Carter said, slamming a folder onto the table. "We also found an offshore account in your name created forty-eight hours ago. Two million dollars, transferred from a shell company linked to Alvarez Logistics."
"It's a setup," Elena said, keeping her voice steady. "I was investigating a security breach in our own archives. Someone cloned Director Thomas's credentials."
"Marcus Vance says otherwise," Carter replied coldly.
Elena froze. "What did Marcus say?"
