Chapter 28 - The Price of Truth

A brutal struggle ensued in the dim light of the warehouse. Victoria managed to break free from Marcus and fired at Elena. The bullet grazed Elena’s shoulder, tearing through her jacket and drawing blood, but she didn't stop.

Elena tackled Victoria into a stack of old shipping pallets. The wooden structures collapsed around them. Elena pinned her aunt to the floor, her gun pressed against Victoria’s chin.

"Give me the master drive," Elena growled, the pain in her shoulder burning.

Victoria sneered, spitting blood onto the concrete. "It's already uploading, Elena. Look at the monitor."

Across the room, a laptop screen showed a progress bar at 92%. Marcus, staggering from his injuries, dragged himself toward the computer. "I can't stop the encryption bypass, Elena! It's too complex!"

"Destroy the physical server, Marcus!" Elena shouted. "The black box under the desk!"

Marcus grabbed a metal pipe from the floor and smashed the server casing repeatedly until the screens went black and the progress bar vanished forever. The duplicate ledger was destroyed.
