Elena kept her gun raised, moving slowly through the maze of wooden crates. "It ends here, Victoria. The judge is dead, Internal Affairs is looking for me, but the evidence against you is already scheduled for an automatic upload to the Department of Justice server if I don't check in by morning."
Victoria laughed, a cold, dry sound. "Do you think I care about the DOJ? By morning, the ledger will be sold to three different international syndicates. The city will be too chaotic for anyone to care about an ex-Deputy Director on the run."
Two armed men stepped out from behind the crates, blocking Elena’s exit.

"You made one mistake, Aunt Victoria," Elena said, her eyes shifting to Marcus, who was subtly working his hands free from the poorly tied ropes. "You assumed I came here as an officer of the law."
Elena fired twice, neutralizing the two guards before they could raise their weapons. Marcus threw himself forward, knocking Victoria to the ground as she drew a compact pistol from her jacket.
