Chapter 26 - The Ghost of the Syndicate

For three days, Elena lived on adrenaline and stale water. She hacked into the city's traffic camera network using her old encryption codes. She tracked the vehicle that had fled the courthouse parking lot the day Judge Vance was killed.

The car belonged to a company called Aegis Holdings. A deep dive into the corporate registry revealed the true identity of the owner: Victoria Alvarez, her estranged aunt who was supposed to be living in exile in Europe.

Victoria had returned. She wasn't interested in the old ways of smuggling drugs and weapons; she wanted the digital infrastructure of the city. By controlling the ledger, she could control the politicians who regulated the port expansion projects.

Elena tracked Victoria’s operations to a warehouse on Pier 42. Armed with only her backup service weapon and her wits, Elena infiltrated the facility under the cover of a midnight storm.

Inside, she found Marcus Vance tied to a chair, badly beaten but alive. Standing over him was Victoria Alvarez, looking elegant and lethal in a tailored grey suit.
