Chapter 17 - Battle at the Shipyard

A hail of automatic fire tore through the silence of the shipyard.
I landed heavily on the concrete, rolling behind an industrial tractor for cover. Victor provided covering fire from the rafters above, drawing away a squad of shooters on the eastern side.
I advanced step by step, utilizing every piece of cover. Every shot I fired carried the accumulated rage of the past several days. Mercenary after mercenary fell as gunfire echoed off the rusted corrugated walls.
"Adrian! You can't save them both!" Dominic screamed from behind his barricade.
Suddenly, a guard ambushed me from a blind spot, driving a combat knife straight into my side. My body armor caught the blade, but the impact slammed me onto the hard ground, knocking my handgun out of reach.
The gunman pinned me down, raising his blade to drive it into my neck.
With a roar, I used all my strength to grab his head, twisting sharply to break his neck before throwing his weight off me.
I retrieved my sidearm and scrambled toward Claire’s position.
"Adrian!" Claire cried out, tears cutting through the grime on her face as she saw my bloodied state.
"I'm here," I rasped, cutting her bindings and pulling her tightly against me. "Are you alright? Is Liam okay?"
"I'm fine... Liam is safe!" she sobbed, pointing frantically to the carrier.
I scooped Liam into my arms. Seeing my face, he immediately quieted down, clinging tightly to my tactical vest.
Just then, a heavy explosion rocked the main entrance. Victor was hit from above, tumbling down onto a pile of insulation materials below and clutching a fractured arm.
"Boss! Dominic has reinforcements coming in!" Victor shouted over the comms.

Three armored vans crashed through the shipyard doors, deploying fresh tactical squads. Dominic stepped out from cover, holding a loaded RPG launcher.
"It ends here, Adrian!" Dominic laughed psychotically, aiming the heavy ordnance straight at our position. "You and your family burn together!"
