Chapter 21 - A New Dawn (Epilogue)

Two years later.

The coastal town in Maine welcomed a brilliant summer. The cottage on the hill was now alive with laughter and blooming hydrangeas.

I stood in my small woodworking shop behind the house, carefully sanding the edges of a hand-crafted wooden crib. On the wall hung an official certificate from the federal probation office marking the full completion of my community service. I was officially a completely free man under the law.

"Adrian!" Claire’s voice called out from the garden.

I wiped the sawdust from my shirt and stepped outside.

Claire stood under the wooden arbor wearing a flowing white dress. Her baby bump was prominently visible—we were expecting a baby girl in the early autumn. Liam, now five years old, was happily running around her holding a wooden airplane I had carved for him.

"The doctor just called," Claire smiled radiantly, her eyes shimmering with pure joy. "Everything looks perfect."

I stepped forward and knelt on one knee before her, gently placing my ear against her bump to listen to the soft, rhythmic heartbeat within.

"Thank you," I murmured, looking up to hold her soft hand. "Thank you for never giving up on me, even when I was at my worst."

"You were never a bad man to us, Adrian," Claire ran her fingers through my hair softly. "You were just a man who had to fight monsters to protect the people he loved. And you won."

Liam ran over, jumping up to wrap his arms around my neck. "Daddy! Fly the plane! Fly!"

I laughed, scooping Liam onto my shoulders while wrapping my arm around Claire's waist as we walked down toward the sandy shore together.

The gentle ocean breeze blew softly around us, bringing the fresh scent of the sea. Seabirds glided freely beneath the vast blue sky.

I looked at my wife, my son, and the new life growing within our family. The criminal empire that had once defined my life felt like nothing more than a distant speck of dust. My true empire—built on love, sacrifice, and peace—was right here, enduring softly under the warm morning sun.
