Chapter 2 - The Domino Effect

The chaos began before Blake and I even reached his vehicle. Phones began ringing simultaneously across the garden. Business executives, investors, and high-society figures who had just been laughing at my expense were now staring at their screens in horror.

"Mr. Vance!" shouted Julian Vance’s biggest investor, stepping away from his table. "My board just pulled our entire venture capital allocation from your firm!"

"Richard, what did you do?!" screamed Penelope’s new father-in-law, a prominent hotel magnate. "Campbell Industries just cancelled our venue development contract! We’re ruined!"

Penelope burst into frantic tears, clutching her bridegroom, Chad, who looked like he was about to faint. "Dad! Do something! Make him stop!"

Richard rushed toward our convoy, desperate to reach Blake before the doors closed. "Wait! Blake—Mr. Campbell! This is a misunderstanding! She’s my daughter! Family forgives family!"

Blake stopped at the door of the central SUV. He looked over his shoulder at my father, whose face was pale and slick with sweat.

"I explicitly recall my wife warning you not to forget that moment," Blake said coldly. "We certainly won't."

The armored SUV doors shut, sealing us in quiet luxury as the driver pulled away, leaving the Vance family to face the wrath of their ruined guests.
