Chapter 7 - Reclaiming the Crown

At the end of the week, Blake took me on a drive to the historic district. We pulled up in front of a sprawling, magnificent estate—the iconic Vance family manor where I had grown up feeling like an unwanted ghost.

"Why are we here?" I asked, looking at the familiar wrought-iron gates.

"Because it belongs to you now," Blake said, turning to me with a gentle smile. "I bought the deed from the bank foreclosure auction this morning. It’s entirely in your name."

We walked through the heavy front doors. The grand entrance hall, once filled with photos of Penelope’s pageants and Richard’s business awards, was bare.

"What do you want to do with it?" Blake asked.

I looked around the vast space where I had once been banished to the attic quarters. "Demolish the interior. Turn it into a community arts foundation for underprivileged young women who need a second chance."

Blake kissed my hand. "Consider it done."
