Chapter 4 - Unearthing the Past

As Blake’s legal and financial teams dug deeper into the Vance family accounts, dark secrets began to surface. It turned out my public humiliation at the wedding wasn't just born of petty malice—it was calculated.

Years ago, my late grandmother had left a massive trust fund dedicated entirely to me, consisting of prime oceanfront property in South Beach. Because I was young, Richard had appointed himself as the sole executor. Over the past five years, he had illegally siphoned funds from my trust to finance Penelope’s lavish lifestyle and keep his failing firm afloat.

"They needed you broken and isolated," Blake explained as his head attorney, Sarah Vance (no relation), laid out the bank statements. "If you ever discovered the trust or hired a lawyer, Richard would face federal embezzlement charges."

"So they tried to push me out of society entirely," I said, the pieces finally falling into place. "To make me feel so worthless that I would never question them."

"Well," Blake smiled, a dangerous glint in his eye, "they made a fatal miscalculation."
