Chapter 17 - THE TRAP CLOSES

Judge Abernathy pulled a document stamped with a red federal seal from her folder.

"It appears, Miss Vance," Judge Abernathy stated coldly, "that the forensic audit submitted by Bennett Group’s legal team has uncovered thirty-four instances of grand larceny, wire fraud, and tax evasion executed through your London investment firm between 2021 and 2023."

A gasp rippled through the gallery!

Victoria stood up frantically, her voice rising into an octave of panic. "That's a lie! That's a corporate fabrication created by Charles Bennett to ruin my credibility!"

"Silence in my courtroom!" Judge Abernathy slammed her gavel down with a booming crash!

Arthur Vance, Charles’s attorney, stood up calmly. "Your Honor, we have also submitted certified bank records from Zurich showing that three weeks ago, Miss Vance took out a five-million-dollar private loan from an offshore hedge fund, pledging the future trust assets of Lena and Ivy Vance as collateral."

"She pledged children's trust assets for a personal loan?!" Judge Abernathy asked, her voice dripping with profound moral disgust.

"Yes, Your Honor," Arthur confirmed, handing a second certified document to the court bailiff. "She did not seek custody out of familial affection. She sought custody to execute a fraudulent loan liquidation scheme to pay off her European creditors before federal indictments were issued."

Victoria turned toward her attorneys, her eyes wide with frantic horror. "Do something! Say something!"

Her lead attorney looked at the federal seal on the document, closed his leather briefcase, and stepped two feet away from her. "Your Honor... my firm was unaware of these financial disclosures. We formally withdraw our representation of Miss Vance effective immediately."

Charles sat quietly at the plaintiff’s table, his arm resting around Lena’s shoulders. He didn't look at Victoria with triumph. He looked at her with the cold, absolute detachment of a man who had crushed a bug that tried to crawl into his home.

Judge Abernathy picked up her pen, signing a series of documents with sharp, decisive strokes.

"The temporary visitation order is hereby revoked with prejudice," Judge Abernathy declared, her voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "Furthermore, this court issues a permanent, nationwide restraining order prohibiting Victoria Vance from coming within five thousand feet of Lena Bennett, Ivy Bennett, or any property owned by Charles Bennett."

She struck the gavel down. BANG!

"Federal marshals are waiting in the hallway to process Miss Vance on wire fraud charges," Judge Abernathy added flatly. "Court is adjourned."
