Chapter 6 - The Shattered Alliance
Inside the County Jail holding cells, the illusion of family unity completely collapsed.
Grant sat on a concrete bench, glaring at his son. "You incompetent fool! You told me she didn't have cameras in the living room!"
"Shut up, Dad!" Ryan yelled, grabbing the bars of his cell. "You were the one who burnt her! I told you to just intimidate her, not attack her!"
"Intimidate her?" Grant sneered, standing up and towering over Ryan. "You were robbing her blind for two years! If you had managed your money properly, we wouldn't have needed her stock options! You dragged me into your embezzlement scheme!"
"I did it to pay off YOUR gambling debts!" Ryan shouted back, his voice cracking with desperation. "I bought Mom's jewelry! I paid Brooke's tuition! I saved your pathetic shipping company from bankruptcy!"
What neither man realized was that Brooke Bennett was standing in an interrogation room down the hall, accompanied by a court-appointed public defender.
"If you cooperate with the financial fraud prosecution," the Assistant District Attorney told Brooke, "and detail every asset Grant and Ryan bought for you using Claire Bennett’s stolen funds, we will drop the conspiracy charges against you."
Brooke didn't hesitate for a single second.

"I’ll tell you everything," Brooke said eagerly, wiping her nose. "I have receipts. I have text messages from Ryan explaining how he forged Claire’s signatures. Just don't send me to jail."
By nightfall, Brooke had turned state's evidence against her own brother and father, sealing their legal fate.
