Chapter 8 - The Financial Reckoning

Three months later, the Civil and Financial Fraud Trial commenced in Denver District Court.
Claire walked into the courtroom looking breathtaking. Dressed in a navy blue tailored suit, her hair styled flawlessly, she projected total authority and confidence. Maya was safe at home with a licensed elite nanny and Sarah.
Ryan and Grant sat at the defense table, looking like ghosts of their former selves.
The forensic accountant hired by Marcus Vance took the stand.
"Over a twenty-four-month period," the expert testified, "Ryan Bennett executed 42 unauthorized transfers totaling $4.8 million from Claire Bennett's private equity accounts. Furthermore, Grant Bennett used these illicit funds to secure fraudulent bank credit lines."
Marcus Vance stood up for the plaintiff. "We request an immediate total forfeiture of all assets held by Bennett Global Logistics, the immediate seizure of all real estate purchased in Florida, and full restitution plus $10 million in punitive damages for emotional trauma and physical assault."
Ryan’s attorney had no defense left. Brooke’s text messages and bank records had completely demolished their claims.
The judge didn't even deliberate for an hour.
"The court finds in favor of Claire Bennett on all counts," the judge declared, slamming the gavel down. "All foreign and domestic accounts linked to Ryan and Grant Bennett are hereby frozen and surrendered to the plaintiff. Punitive damages of $10 million are granted."

Ryan covered his face and wept bitterly. Grant sat frozen, realizing that every single penny he had stolen, every luxury house, and every asset he owned was officially gone.
Claire stood up, adjusted her jacket, and walked out of the civil court without giving either of them a backward glance.
