Chapter 15 - FRACTURED SUNLIGHT

The next afternoon, rain lashed against the tall stained-glass windows of the estate. The forty-eight-hour clock was ticking down.
Dante held an emergency meeting in his study with Marcus and Captain Miller, the head of the Chicago Police Department's organized crime division. Miller was an honest cop whom Dante had helped put away corrupt politicians two years ago.
"You're asking me to stand down while you meet Julian Rossi face-to-face?" Captain Miller asked incredulously, slamming his hand on the desk. "Moretti, if Rossi catches wind that the cops are involved, he’ll blow up your logistics hub at the docks!"
"Captain," Dante said calmly, leaning forward over his desk. "Julian Rossi wants to humiliate me. He wants to sign the property transfer papers at the old harbor warehouse where my father used to run the Syndicate. It’s symbolic for him."
"It's a trap, Dante," Marcus warned. "He’ll have snipers on the crane towers."
"I know," Dante replied. "Which is why Grace and I are setting a counter-trap."
The door opened, and Grace stepped into the study wearing a sharp black suit, her long hair tied back into a sleek ponytail. She carried a leather briefcase.
"Captain Miller," Grace said, setting the briefcase on the desk. "Inside this case are the digital deeds to Dante's logistics network. But embedded within the legal transfer documents is a hidden tracker and an automated virus that will instantly expose every offshore account connected to Julian Rossi's European syndicate the moment he signs."
Miller looked from Grace to Dante in shock. "You're turning his own extortion into a federal financial wiretrap?"
"Precisely," Grace said coolly. "Julian wants to act like a Don, but he operates like a corporate thief. We hit him where he bleeds most—his money and his freedom."
Dante stood up and walked over to Grace, slipping his hand into hers. "Miller, your team surrounding the harbor will have full jurisdiction to arrest Julian and his entire inner circle the second the ink touches the paper. No bloodshed in the streets. No innocent lives lost."

Miller looked at the couple, shaking his head in awe. "You two really are something else. Alright, Moretti. We do it your way. But if things go sideways..."
"If things go sideways," Dante said, his voice dropping into a chill that made even the veteran police captain shudder, "I will handle it myself."
