Chapter 19 - ASHES AND REBIRTH

Six months passed.

Spring returned to Chicago, bringing warmth and color back to the estate. The wisteria vines along the limestone walls were thicker now, filled with fragrant purple blossoms that drifted on the breeze.

The Grace Moretti Children’s Academy celebrated its second anniversary. What had started as a small community initiative was now a state-of-the-art educational sanctuary for hundreds of underprivileged children across the city, completely funded by Dante’s legitimate foundation.

At the academy's spring ceremony, Dante stood near the front row of the auditorium. He wore a crisp blue linen suit, looking relaxed, happy, and entirely at ease. Beside him sat Rosie and Marcus, laughing together like family.

On stage, Grace stood at the podium, wearing a brilliant yellow dress that made her look like the very embodiment of sunshine.

"Two years ago, this academy was just a dream," Grace announced to the cheering crowd of parents, teachers, and children. "A dream built on the belief that every child, no matter where they come from or what shadows lie in their past, deserves a chance to stand in the light."

She looked straight at Dante, her green eyes shimmering with happy tears.

"I want to thank my husband, Dante," she continued, her voice ringing clear through the hall. "A man who showed me that true strength isn't about power or fear—it's about the courage to protect the people you love."

The crowd erupted into resounding applause. Ethan, sitting next to Dante, stood on his chair, cheering loudly. "That's my mom! That's my mom!"

Dante laughed, picking Ethan up and holding him on his hip, his heart overflowing with a peace he had once thought impossible for a man like him.

After the ceremony, as guests gathered in the courtyard for refreshments, Grace walked up to Dante. He took her hand, drawing her away from the crowd toward the quiet stone archway near the garden.

"You gave a wonderful speech, my love," Dante murmured, kissing her forehead.

"I meant every word," Grace said softly, resting her cheek against his chest. "Dante... I have news."

Dante pulled back slightly, looking down into her face. "Is everything alright?"

Grace took his hand and placed it gently against her lower abdomen. A radiant, emotional smile spread across her face.

"Ethan is going to be a big brother," she whispered.

Dante froze. For a man who had faced down rival armies without blinking, his breath completely caught in his throat. He looked down at his hand on her stomach, then back up to her glowing face.

"Grace..." his voice cracked, filled with overwhelming awe. "A baby?"

May you like

"A baby," she confirmed, laughing through her tears.

Dante gathered her into his arms, lifting her off her feet and spinning her around in the sunlit courtyard, his deep laughter echoing through the air.
