Chapter 9 - Legitimizing the Throne

Six months later, the Salvatichi organization looked entirely different. The shadow war was won, the Falcone family was completely dismantled, and Dante had systematically begun the process of liquidating his illegal assets, transitioning the entire enterprise into a legitimate global shipping and logistics conglomerate.

The iron gates of the Lake Forest estate were still there, but they were now framed by blooming yellow roses. The armed guards wore corporate security uniforms rather than tactical gear, and the sound of gunfire was replaced by the clatter of construction.

Dante had converted the entire eastern wing of the mansion into the Grace Miller Academy, a fully accredited, tuition-free preschool for underprivileged children from the West Taylor Street neighborhood. Rosie, the old diner owner, sat on the board of directors, her gravelly voice commanding respect during every meeting.

"You're late for your own ribbon-cutting, Don Dante," Grace teased, walking into his study. She looked breathtaking in an emerald-green silk dress, her hair pinned up elegantly.

Dante stood up from his desk, which was covered in legal corporate restructuring documents rather than ledgers. He walked over to her, sliding his hands around her waist. "I was finalizing a very important acquisition, Miss Miller."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. Inside was a flawless, radiant-cut emerald ring surrounded by brilliant diamonds.

"Dante," Grace gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.

"I spent my whole life building walls to keep the world out, Grace," Dante said, his ice-blue eyes melting with an absolute, unconditioned devotion. "But you walked right through them and showed me how to live. Will you marry me? Will you make this family real?"

Before she could answer, Ethan slid out from under the desk, where he had been hiding with his notebook. He held up a drawing of a beautiful church, with three stick figures holding hands at the altar. "Say yes, Grace! I already drew the picture!"

Grace laughed, tears of pure joy spilling over her lashes. "Yes. A thousand times yes."
