The hospital wing was under heavy guard. Roman was conscious but weak, the doctors confirming that a rare synthetic toxin had been introduced into his daily dietary supplements—the exact vulnerability highlighted in the Swiss report.
Isla stood by his bedside, holding his hand tightly. "Marcus is sweeping the entire tower. Someone on the inside did this."
The door opened, and Marcus walked in, his face pale. "Sir... it was Davis."
Roman’s eyes widened in disbelief. Davis, the loyal assistant who had stood by him in the lobby, the man who had helped hide Isla a year ago, had been caught on security footage tampering with Roman’s office vault.
"Why?" Roman choked out, the betrayal cutting deeper than the poison.

Isla stood up, smoothing her skirt. The gentle mother and wife vanished, replaced by a woman fiercely protecting her family. "Roman, you need to rest and recover. Let me handle Davis. And let me handle Julian."
