Chapter 18 - Rebuilding the Sanctuary
Two months after Julian Sterling’s arrest and the collapse of Erebus Holdings, life in the town returned to a peaceful, vibrant rhythm. The legal battles were officially over, and Vance Global’s reputation emerged stronger than ever.
The family diner had been completely restored, looking even warmer and more inviting than before. The scorched kitchen was replaced with state-of-the-art culinary equipment, and the dining room featured a new wooden wall dedicated to photos of local community events.
On a warm Saturday morning, the diner was packed with regulars. Maria was serving fresh pancakes, while Sophie managed the counter with a radiant smile.
Emma and Chloe were sitting at their favorite booth near the window, wearing their matching white dresses and silver bluebird bracelets. They were busy drawing pictures with colored pencils.
Ethan walked over, carrying a tray with two tall chocolate milkshakes topped with extra whipped cream and cherries.
"Order up for the two most important board members of Vance Global," Ethan said with a dramatic bow, placing the milkshakes on their table.
"Yay! Thanks, Daddy!" Chloe cheered, taking a big sip through her straw.
Emma showed Ethan her drawing. It was a picture of the four of them standing in front of the diner, under a massive rainbow, with a small dog drawn beside them.
Ethan chuckled, pointing to the dog. "Wait, who is this little guy?"
Emma looked up with big, hopeful eyes. "Well... since the diner is all fixed, and school is going great, we were thinking that our family story needs one more chapter."
"A puppy!" Chloe added excitedly. "A golden retriever! We can name him 'Five Bucks'!"

Ethan burst out laughing, a deep, joyful sound that made Sophie look over from the counter and smile.
"Five Bucks, huh?" Ethan pondered, leaning down to kiss Emma’s head. "I think that’s the best investment idea I’ve heard all year. Let’s talk to your mom about it."
