Chapter 19 - The Legacy Award
By autumn, the city hosted its annual Philanthropy and Community Legacy Gala at the Grand Horizon Ballroom. It was an event usually reserved for elite tycoons and politicians, but tonight, Ethan Vance had requested a special arrangement.
When Ethan was called to the stage to receive the "Citizen of the Year" award for his massive contributions to public education and community welfare, he didn't walk up alone. He took Sophie’s hand, while Emma and Chloe held onto his arms, walking up the steps together as a family.
The audience, filled with high-society figures, business leaders, and local teachers, applauded warmly.
Standing at the podium with his family beside him, Ethan adjusted the microphone.
"Years ago," Ethan began, looking out over the grand ballroom, "I believed that success was measured by numbers on a balance sheet, by corporate acquisitions, and by building impenetrable walls around myself."
He looked down at Sophie, whose eyes shone with admiration, and then at the twin girls.
"I was wrong," Ethan said softly. "True strength isn't about building walls to keep the world out; it's about building a home where the people you love feel safe. A five-dollar investment made by two little girls in a school cafeteria taught me more about value, loyalty, and love than twenty years in the corporate world ever could."
He lifted the glass trophy, holding it alongside Sophie and the girls.

"This award doesn't belong to Ethan Vance, the CEO," he concluded. "It belongs to the Vance family. Because our story is just getting started."
The ballroom erupted into standing ovation. Cameras flashed, but Ethan wasn't looking at the lights. He was looking at Sophie, leaning down to kiss her passionately amidst the cheers of the crowd.
