Chapter 18 - The Mountain Sanctuary

By the time the autumn leaves began to turn gold and red, the Vance family had relocated to a stunning, timber-framed cabin nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia.
The cabin sat on twenty acres of private land, surrounded by towering pine trees and a rushing mountain creek. It was a natural fortress, peaceful and secluded, with panoramic views of the misty valleys below. Jamie had already made friends at the local school, his laughter returning to its bright, carefree rhythm as he explored the woods with his new dog—a golden retriever puppy they had named "Salty" as a nod to their coastal past.
Liam had successfully transitioned Oasis Maritime to a remote-management model, his reputation as a logistics genius earning him high-paying consulting contracts from major shipping lines across the globe.
One crisp Saturday morning, Liam was in the backyard, helping Jamie build a grand wooden treehouse in the branches of a massive oak tree. Salty was running around the trunk, barking happily, while Grace sat on a blanket in the grass, clapping her hands.
"Is this high enough, Dad?" Jamie asked, peering down from the wooden platform they had just secured.
"It's perfect, buddy," Liam smiled, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. He looked at his son, his heart swelling with a deep, profound pride. Jamie was growing into a strong, kind young man, untainted by the cruelty of the past.
Sarah walked out from the cabin, wearing a thick flannel shirt and jeans, carrying a tray of fresh apple cider. Her skin was glowing, the dark shadows under her eyes completely gone, replaced by a radiant, healthy peace.
"I think the construction crew deserves a break," Sarah smiled, setting the tray down on a rustic wooden table.
Liam climbed down the ladder, pulling her into a warm, tight embrace. "How is the painting coming?"

"I just finished the landscape of the valley," Sarah said, her green eyes shining. She had returned to her art, her paintings of the mountain vistas already attracting attention from local galleries. "The light up here is completely different from the coast, Liam. It feels... clean. Like a fresh canvas."
"It is a fresh canvas, my love," Liam whispered, holding her close, the scent of pine and fresh cedar filling his senses.
