Chapter 9 - The Rebuilding of the Estate

With the legal battle finished and the dark shadow of my family locked away behind steel bars, we had to decide what to do with the mansion in Bayside Heights.

"I want to sell it, Liam," Sarah said one morning as we sat in our coastal cottage. "I don't want to live there. It has too many ghosts."

"I agree," I said. "But we aren't just going to sell it. We are going to do something better."

I contacted a local non-profit organization that worked with victims of domestic abuse and single mothers who had fallen on hard times. I transferred the title of the Bayside Heights mansion to their trust, turning the five-million-dollar estate into a safe haven, a transition home for women and children who needed shelter, safety, and a chance to rebuild their lives.

We called it The Rose Garden, named after Sarah’s grandmother.

The grand ballroom that had once hosted wealthy, fake friends was turned into a playroom for children. The service kitchen where Sarah and Jamie had been starved was demolished, replaced by a warm, communal kitchen where mothers could cook fresh, healthy meals for their families.

The day of the grand opening, Sarah stood on the steps of the mansion, looking at the dozens of women and children who were moving in, their faces filled with the same hope she had felt when I walked through that door.

"You did this, Liam," she whispered, her arm wrapping around my waist.

"No, Sarah," I said, kissing her temple. "We did this. We turned our pain into their peace."
