Chapter 9 - Rebuilding the Foundation

Over the next year, the healing process continued steadily. Daniel worked hard, eventually earning a promotion at the logistics firm to operations supervisor through his own merit, without using his mother's name or connections.
He paid off a significant portion of the debt, attended court-ordered therapy, and cut off every superficial friend from his past life.
Meanwhile, Margaret reopened her home to real warmth. She converted two of the empty bedrooms into a community center headquarters, hosting pro-bono legal clinics for elderly victims of financial fraud.
One Sunday afternoon, Daniel came over to help repair the wooden deck near the pool—doing the hard manual labor himself rather than hiring contractors. Margaret sat nearby, reading a book, sipping iced tea.
